Spanish Teacher
High School – New Madrid County Central (2014-2018)
Undergrad – Southeast Missouri State University (2018-2022)
BSED in Spanish Education – 2022
This is my first year teaching with Sikeston Public Schools, and I’m very excited! I currently teach four classes of Spanish 2 and two classes of Spanish 1.
Though this is my first official year teaching at a public school, I have been an educator for most of my adult life. I assisted in a Kindergarten class from 2017-2018, observed and taught classes at Scott City School as well as Cape Junior High, and acted as a learning assistant for SEMO’s Learning Assistance Programs. With the LAP, I coached students on academic issues and provided private tutoring to those that requested it. I’ve also worked at a Mexican restaurant in Cape Girardeau, where I spent time working with a diverse population while using Spanish.
I come from a family of educators, believe it or not! My mother is a kindergarten teacher, and my dad is a math teacher. My sister is also considering a career in education! I also have a fur baby, Peppermint Patty, who is an 8-month old cat. She’s super smart, and super mischievous. I’ll gladly show anybody pictures of her – All you have to do is ask!
Hola a todos, and thanks for visiting my page! My name is Caleb Austin, though you can call me Profe Austin or even just Profe. I’m a 2022 SEMO grad, where I majored in Spanish Education with a minor in music. I’m super excited to be teaching in our community! When I’m not teaching, you will likely find me tending to my garden, reading while drinking a concerning amount of coffee, obssessing over whatever language I happen to be interested in at the time, or annoying my neighbors with one of my many instruments (trumpet, guitar, piano, horn).
