Course Description
The AP English course in Language and Composition engages students in the careful reading and critical analysis of diverse texts. The reading and writing students do in the course should deepen and expand their understanding of how written language functions rhetorically to communicate writers' intentions and elicit readers' responses in particular situations. Through the close reading of selected texts, students will deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide meaning for readers. As they read, students will consider the work's structure, style, and themes as well as such smaller-scale elements as the use of vocabulary, diction, syntax, spelling, punctuation, paragraphing, and genre. Students who take this course are strongly encouraged to take the AP Language and Composition exam and the district pays the AP exam fee.
