I graduated from Hannibal High School in Hannibal, Mo in 1990. I was an active member of the concert choir, the show choir, and drama. I also played varsity softball and was a member of the lettermen’s club.
I received my bachelor of arts in vocal music from Truman State University (then NMSU) in Kirksville, MO in 1995. While I was a student there I was a member of the select concert choir, the NEMO Singers, the chamber choir, and opera workshop. I represented Truman in the all-collegiate choir. My senior year I was a section leader in NEMO Singers and we went on a tour of eastern Europe. We spent five days in Bratislava, Slovakia and five days in Prague, Czech Republic and performed five concerts in tebh days.
I completed my teaching certification at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo. While attending UCM that year I participated in the concert choir and the madrigal ensemble. I was also lucky enough to represent UCM in the all-collegiate choir that year.
After teaching vocal music for many years I went back to work on a masters degree in counseling. I graduated from Missouri Baptist University in May of 2012 with a Master of Arts in Counseling.
I have attended multiple workshops and trainings throughout my career. A few of the many that I have attended include:
This will be my first year teaching choir in the Sikeston school district. I will be directing the junior high and high school choirs. I am excited to have the opportunity to serve the students of this community, and I look for ward to a great year!
I started my teaching career in Poplar Bluff, MO teaching elementary music. I spent three years there, and then I moved to the Kelly School Distract in Benton where I also taught elementary music for two years. I took the opportunity to move back to my hometown area and taught elementary music in the Ralls County R-II School District for two years. I was a traveling teacher there and taught at both Center Elementary and New London Elementary . Then I secured a position with the Louisiana R-II School district teaching K-12 vocal music. I taught a part of each day at Louisiana Elementary, Louisiana Middle School, and Louisiana High School. I was also the drama club director for LHS and directed six musicals during my time in that district.
In May of 2014, I decided to put my degree in counseling to use and accepted a position at Warren E. Hearnes Elementary in Charleston, MO. My daughter and I moved to Sikeston in July of 2014. We have really enjoyed this community and are happy to be a part of the Sikeston school district.
I live here in Sikeston with my beautiful daughter, Taylor. She is nine years old and will be a fourth grade studentat Lee Hunter this fall. She too enjoys music and theatre. We both weres in the cast of “Big Fish” The Musical” presented by Sikestyon Little Theatre this summer. She is excieted about auditioning for more productions. She is also a dancer at Melissa’s School of Performing Arts.
I have a lot of different activities that I like to do when I am not teaching. Finding time to do them can be a challenge though. My favorite thing to do is spend time with my daughter. Together we enjoy watching movies, shopping, playing games and doing community theater
I also enjoy reading and scrapbooking, so I spend a lot of time during the summer months catching up on all the reading and scrapping that I don’t get a chance to do during the school year.
